Cara’s Migraine Journey

Hi there! This is Cara, Mind Body Physiotherapy’s patient care coordinator. I met Dr. Gonzales because, like many of her patients, I have a long history of migraines. I have suffered from chronic and often severe migraines for over 15 years. I would like to share how Mind Body Physio has impacted my personal migraine journey.

I made significant progress after working with Vertrees Headache Center. For the first time, I felt hopeful that I could live with less pain. Dr. Vertrees referred me to Dr. Gonzales to see how PT could help with my migraines.

I decided to start PT with Dr. Gonzales for several reasons but what really stood out were the questions she asked me on our discovery phone call. She asked:

  • In what ways are your migraines impacting you day to day?

  • Are there things you are unable to do because of your pain?

  • What is your goal? Why is reaching that goal important to you?

  • How do you envision your life being different if you are able to reach that goal?

Some of these questions were things no one had ever asked me before.

I realized just how much my migraines were affecting my daily life. I was not able to exercise as much as I wanted, I was missing social activities, I was unable to contribute to household tasks, and I often felt tired and disengaged. I decided my ultimate goal was to be pain-free because I envisioned that less pain would allow me to be more energetic, present, and engaged in life.

PT with Mind Body Physiotherapy was the final piece of the puzzle. Once I added it to my treatment plan, my progress accelerated. Starting by working on my pelvic alignment and expanding from there, Dr. Gonzales discovered asymmetries and imbalances at the root of my pain. Step by step, she has progressed me to my goal of being pain-free and able to experience life to its fullest.

When I started treatment with Dr. Gonzales I averaged 8 symptom-free days per month. Now, 4 months later, I average 20 symptom-free days a month and I’m still improving. With migraines, healing is often a process but progress truly is possible! I really notice a difference in how I feel when I am consistently doing the exercises Dr. Gonzales gives me. So keep putting in the effort towards your PT exercises!

When Dr. Gonzales was looking to add to the Mind Body Physio team, I was thrilled because I knew her practice and mission was something I would be proud to be part of and it had already made a personal impact on me.

Are you ready to try PT with Dr. Gonzales? You can schedule a free discovery call with us here.

For my fellow migraine sufferers out there, I’m here to tell you there is hope! Give physical therapy a try!

Thanks so much for reading,

Cara
